Music documentary ‘The Connoisseur’s Journal’, showcases evolution music & culture through the narrative point of view of a Connoisseur. a deep researcher of music, who candidly writes his observation in his journal. He meets artists, musicians, music lovers and every other dreamer affected by music. He talks with them to understand how music moves them and how important music is to them. The film offers a fascinating trip through one of the most exiting cities of today, Ahmedabad, an overview of the phenomenally diverse musical panorama. This documentary could serve as reference for every music lover to acknowledge the magnificent music that Ahmedabad has to offer. Following a brief overview of the roots of music in Ahmedabad, dating back to the 1990s, the story will be told through the testimonies of those who lived through this promising era in Ahmedabad’s modern history. Weaving together moving interviews and rare archival footage (of artists' lives, performances, theatrical plays, and music festivals), the documentary will portray, for the first time on film, the individual journeys of musicians, their legacy, and the enduring power of the music. the film will testify to the ability of music to sustain and improve our lives, as well as help us make sense of the uncertain world in which we live.
The documentary will ultimately reveal the ability of music in general and folk music in particular to express the shared hopes and dreams of people everywhere striving to make the world a better place.
Plot Outline:
A connoisseur’s dream is a perfect pitch, rhythm and melody, the perfect song. That’s why he is ever listening to everything so closely, so silently. He recreates his experiences & opinions through his journal. His whole life is captured in it so deliberately, to be discovered one day. He tries to write the sounds through naked words and explain emotions through a picture of it. His eyes are watching people cry while listening songs, he sees them dancing on the groove and jumping in the beat, he can visualize the rush in their veins obtained purely by music. He is unknown to everyone because he is just listening music, living each and every moment through its observation and analysis. When he goes to a discotheque, he can feel the thump of legs on ground, he can listen the fast paced heartbeats of young party-goers. He observes their elevated sensitivity towards music after they are intoxicated. He loves the moment when they ask for the same music, again and again. His curiosity makes him more & more hungry for excitement, amazement. He goes to every rock shows to listen to screaming energy on the open ground. He can see the connection among the people gathered at that moment. When they sing in unison with music, he monitors their closed fists and narrowed eyes. When the music stops they kind of feel abandoned, the connoisseur can watch eagerness on their faces. He keeps moving on to newer ways to explore music as grows old to be a young responsible identity for the world. His heart has however seen the other side of his thoughts which are so much intense and powerful. He finds out people who share the same anguish for expression. While in a metal gig, he looks at a young girl playing guitar, wearing a black t shirt and head banging really hard. Suddenly the music goes louder and he watches crowd shrinking into a moshpit. The music makes them move their body in violent ways but fearless. They just want to feel the impact of music hitting their body and fly through it. Long hairs, similar cloths and accessories and screams virtually dissolves all the boundary amongst them. He lives a passionate life and his life brings upon more stability to him over the period of time.
